SYMESOK

Born in 1978 in the small mining town of Mountain-Ash, South Wales,
Gareth soon learned to appreciate the tradition of Brass Bands. He
started
playing the cornet at the age of seven with the local band at Cwmaman.
From there he went on to play with the Tredegar Town band, who
represented Wales at the European Brass Band Championships. At the
age of 15 Gareth was a finalist in the Texaco Young Musician of Wales,
and also won a scholarship to the prestigious Chethams School of
Music, Manchester, where he studied trumpet with John Dickinson.
Whilst at Chethams, Gareth was appointed solo cornet with the world
famous Black Dyke Band. Following Chethams, Gareth studied at the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. It was from there that he
was invited to join the recently formed Cyprus State Orchestra, by the
Musical Director at that time, Mr Roland Melia. He hasn't looked back
since and is very happy with his role in Cyprus as the Principal Trumpet.
As well as his duty to the orchestra, Gareth is guest Principal Trumpet
with the Philharmonia of the Nations Orchestra, Principal Trumpet of the
St Endellion Music Festival Orchestra, England and has performed as a
soloist with the Pharos Trust. Gareth has also appeared as guest trumpet
with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and has appeared in several west
end shows including Annie and Miss Saigon. Gareth is a keen conductor
and was recently appointed Musical Director of the famous
Mediterranean Symphonic Chorus. In his spare time Gareth is a
dedicated scuba diver and sailor.
